School physicals are a recurring event throughout childhood. They are the main reason (thankfully) our young patients come to see us, and they are important for reasons than just making sure a child is fit to attend school or participate in athletics.
School physicals and well visits allow us to continue to strengthen our relationship with your child when they are healthy, and they give us a good baseline so that when something isn't right we can catch it and treat it earlier.
Establishing a trusted medical relationship is also important as a child grows because it helps them communicate their health-related questions and concerns to a trusted adult when/if a conversation with a parent is too uncomfortable or embarrassing. Don't be alarmed if this is the case; it is much better they get their information from someone who has a medical background than from what sometimes gets passed around as truth from social circles. Remember, the goal is for your child to lead a happy, healthy life and for them--and you--to rely on a village of people they can count on. We are honored to be a part of that village.
